Little Town...It's a Quiet Village

This is the house where we lived, it was built in 1896.  It is on the national and state register for historic homes.
When we lived there is was blue ....my sister had many a date on that porch...The iside had cherry wood carvings and stain glass windows...

First Baptist Navasota, I could walk there, I learned the books of the Bible songs here from my principal...

Noto's hardware...my best friend was Sherry Noto...we would ride our bikes here then eat ice cream across the street at the pharmacy...

The Church where my sister was married...It is gorgeous!  A Lot of stained glass..

The Wagon Rim Was our family's restaurant and gift shop
Here are some pics of a little town that I lived from 5th to 7th grades.  It is named Navasota, Texas.  It is beautiful place about an hour from Houston.  It is full of historical buildings and homes.  The railroad came through and it used to be a thriving cotton town. My sister was crowned the "Belle" of Navasota in a pageant there, and received scholarship money.  I'll never forget her tapping around in a top hat and tails! She was also a Diamonette in the drill team...a lot of red lips!  The football team is the "Rattlers" yes, after rattlesnakes...need I say more?  Rook is the age now that I was when we lived there and I wanted them to see my old stomping grounds...Psalm 25:4 " Show me the right path, O Lord; point out the road for me to follow.  Lead me by your truth and teach me, for you are the God who saves me.  All day long I put my hope in you."  I'm so thankful to know that even when I was a child, God was directing my path, guiding me gently, teaching me hard lessons, showing me His love...

It's Gonna Be a Good Life...

Psalm 5:11 says, "But let all who take refuge in you be glad; let them ever sing for joy."  There is no greater reason to celebrate than knowing that God is our God.  We serve a God who loves and treasures us.  Lord help us to speak words that glorify you.  Let us keep our eyes on you and shout for joy with singing and dancing!

Here are some highlights of last week in the Segrest household...

Every Little Thing She Does...

Welcome to Rachel Ashwell's Texas B&B.  She is the originator of the Shabby Chic look.  I couldn't take pictures of the little bungalows.  One of them looked like a little school.  It was a beautiful place, that made me miss England.  She is from England, and her fabrics reflect that, cabbage rose, wispy, pastels that I noticed at the Liberty of London store.  I desperately wanted a spot of tea, and 2 lumps...but we just went to gawk and AHH...

The barn where everyone is fed

Her latest book

Not too Shabby...Bubbe (my mom) and Mary Francis (my sister's mother in love)

Awesome...to the tune of $125.00 dollars, not pesos...motivation to break in the sewing machine

The light is made out of a wedding dress hoop...

palm trees in the middle of Texas...

The main B&B house

The Arbor, a place to eat...

Notice the Union flag out of horseshoes for the gate..

Psalm 8:3-4 says, "When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, the son of man that you care for him?"  I am thankful for times that I am reminded that God is always around me.  Like when I feel a gentle breeze on my cheek, the faces and voices of my loved ones, He sends little reminders if I look and listen every minute of everyday.  I am thankful that when I seek the Lord, He is always found.

Junk in the Trunk

So, part of celebrating Kim's birthday, we went junking in Roundtop and Warrenton, TX.  This was validation to me that my family is not the only one that decorates eclectically...I almost felt normal.  My sister and my mom have the gift of finding beauty in the ordinary and sometimes making it sparkle...I try, but I don't think I have the gene as strong as they do.  My sister's mother in love, Mary Francis, and her best friend Molly also have the delicate gift that can walk the thin line of trash or class..I enjoy observing them in action, they can go for hours with peanut brittle administered as needed.
My Auny Mary is in the front...proof that this junking gene is in my blood

Bubbe carrying the junking burden

A see-saw made out of tractor seats...the farmhouse had one!

Homemade pies, kettle korn, peanut brittle, BBQ...Sustained us on our junking journey

Creepy junk

Potty break in an air conditioned, with a sink and playing joy to the world porta potty

My treasure, purchased by Bubbe to hang in my house, the gift to me and Kris for the entire year of gift giving opportunities, I'm not sure if Kris appreciates it like I do...apparently it is a domination, not recess church...I still like it

FYI the sparrow shot cock robin with a bow...

Glitter clothespins...must make!
Isaiah 61:10 says " The Lord makes me very happy.  All that I am rejoices in my God.  The Lord has covered me with clothes of salvation.  He has covered me with a coat of goodness."  I am so thankful that the Lord created each of us with unique talents, so it is pointless to compare myself to others.  I am so unworthy of the gift of Christ's death for my salvation.  His children are a jewel in His crown.
